How to Get Rid of Mice in Your Home

It’s a dark and stormy night, you’ve settled in with some popcorn and your favorite Netflix movie, when suddenly that scratching sound comes from the kitchen. With white knuckles and bated breath, you creep into the kitchen to see what’s happening. That’s when you realize a mouse is in your house.

What is the way to control pest?

Mice in your home are scavengers and they need food, water and shelter to survive. That’s why it is so important to keep your home free of clutter and possible entry points. Keeping food in sealed containers and making sure that crumbs are not being dropped all over the place will help make your home less attractive to mice.

You should also keep your yard tidy and pick up any leaf piles, lumber or firewood near your house. If you have trees, you should prune them regularly and not let the branches hang over your house.

One of the main ways mice enter homes is through holes and cracks that they can squeeze into. Do a thorough inspection of your house, including the foundation, outer walls, and attic area. You should also look for gaps where pipes, wires or vents go into your house. Mice can fit through openings the size of a dime, so be on the lookout for those tiny areas.

If you don’t want to use harsh chemicals or poisons, try repelling mice naturally. Clove oil, peppermint oil and cayenne pepper are known to deter mice. You can put out cotton balls soaked in these scents or sprinkle cloves around your house.
